She Kissed a Girl and Liked It

I’m a regular visitor of the music charts to see what kids are listening to. Today, #3 on iTunes was a song titled “I Kissed a Girl.” No big deal… right?

Well, the song was song by female singer Katy Perry. Here’s the chorus:

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don’t mean I’m in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it

I know that the homosexual issue is a touchy one for many people. If you want to read about my stand on the issue, I blogged about it in detail here and link numerous articles on the subject. But in short, I think we as a church need to love homosexuals and embrace them as we do anyone else. At the same time, I think homosexual activity is wrong and leads to hurt.

This song isn’t so much about homosexual activity as it is just “doing what feels good at the moment.” Just like current hit songs “Lollipop” or “Love in the Club,” this song preaches, “follow your gut in the moment.” Another misleading message for our kids.

Singer Katy Perry first emerged on the scene last fall with her her ‘explicit’ EP “Ur So Gay.” Her new song “I Kissed a Girl” is only three weeks on the charts and is already #3 on iTunes, and #29 on Billboard’s Pop 100 Airplay chart.

According to a brief bio on Billboard.com, this young singer grew up in a Christian home the daughter of two pastors and as a teenager she found herself captivated by Queen vocalist Freddie Mercury and also Alanis Morissette.”  Really?

Keep your eye on this song… I only see it becoming more popular.

Here’s the entire lyrics.

Katy Perry – I Kissed A Girl lyrics

This was never the way I planned
Not my intention
I got so brave, drink in hand
Lost my discretion
It’s not what, I’m used to
Just wanna try you on
I’m curious for you
Caught my attention

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don’t mean I’m in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it

No, I don’t even know your name
It doesn’t matter
Your my experimental game
Just human nature
It’s not what, good girls do
Not how they should behave
My head gets so confused
Hard to obey

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don’t mean I’m in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it

Us girls we are so magical
Soft skin, red lips, so kissable
Hard to resist so touchable
Too good to deny it
Ain’t no big deal, it’s innocent

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don’t mean I’m in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it

Not to mention, Grey’s Anatomy ended last week with two woman kissing, the pregnant “man” earlier this year and the Tila thing last year. Lesbians are the new “it” thing I guess. The idea is less offensive (i.e. Guys love thinking about it) and a less threatening way to push a GLBT agenda. When it is so hard to find a good/Godly man, I can’t blame them on a purely physically plain.

I 100% agree with everything above. It is sad. Keep talking about it.

(FYI – I don’t even think the song is that good)

  2. Cooke says:

Thank you for keeping us aware of what is happening in the world of students. This is an area I feel we are totally missing with our youth groups and culture. We either ignore it or approach the subject with such disgust that not a student around is willing to ask for an explanation of why it is against Gods perfect plan. At the same time they also are left in the dark about how to handle the homosexual peers around them the way Christ would. The homosexual teens are a community that need our love and reason for hope as much as any other group. They have decided what is right by what is acceptable and not by what is truth. They definitly need to hear the truth right along with seeing the love of Christ in us. Don’t see many “programs” out there on the subject. So what would happen if we had an outreach event and told the students to invite any homosexual friends or students who had questions?? Don’t know how well that would really fly but we need to find a way to connect with this group of students.

  3. Linda says:

I am so saddened by the words in this song. I realize that our thoughts may wander in puberty, but to have a song with lyrics that make it “ok” just like everything else that these teens feel like doing, breaks my heart.
I think the liberal agenda is to blame. Homosexuality is a sin, just like any other sin.
We as God loving Christians can’t just sit back and let our children hear these songs. It is a fight that is worth fighting, amen!

  4. jessica says:

im horrified and im only 15, i agree with your opinion on this stuff. the oddest thing though is i heard it for the first time just now on the radio, turned it off, then opened this issue up, odd stuff.

  5. Scott says:

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I live in Asia as a missionary/youth pastor. I need to keep informed about these kinds of issues, too. I admit I am a bit behind due to the fact that those songs don’t make it here all the time or are a bit late. I will begin to prayerfully consider how to approach this issue.

  6. SMS says:

I don’t find this song very offensive compared to songs I hear most people are listening to. I see why you don’t like the song but this is not all bad. Its about a girl who is basically drunk and kisses a girl and likes it. Thats still not good but it’s not as bad as a whole lot of other songs.

  7. I sit here and read on your article, blog whatever… absolutely love the song but torn… appreciate the love you are trying to spread and think its much needed… At the same time i’m confused as to why right the song if you think it is wrong… if anything is to be taken from the song its that girls should kiss girls… just curious about it … DID I MENTION I LOVE THE SONG

  8. DM says:

Sad — this comment posted on Perry’s youtube vid Ur So Gay:

“i love her music even more after i heard she came from a stirct chirstin upbringin. and she could only hear gospal music. and her folks are pastors. love it. love it. love it. you could tell she realy wanted to stick it to them”

  9. miami4god says:

DM YOU SHOULD LEARN HOW TO SPELL BEFORE YOU WANT TO STICK IT TO HER CHRISTAIN PARENTS. I AM SURE SHE IS IN A REBELLIOUS STAGE AND AFTER THE FAN FARE AND MONEY IS DONE THE LORD WILL CONVICT HER ABOUT HER MISLEADING OUR YOUTH. THIS SONG IS VERY DISTURBING AND WHAT IS EVEN MORE DISTURBING IS THE QUIET CHRISTAINS!! I AM A RADICAL FOR CHRIST!! HOMOSEXUALITY AND BI-SEXUALITY ARE A SIN. GOD LOVES ALL BUT WANTS THE BEST FOR US AND THIS LIFESTYLE IS JUST LUST NOT LOVE. I KNOW I HAVE LOST MANY “GAY” FRIENDS TO AIDS AND DEPRESSION.
    GOD IS LOVE

  10. ... says:

you guys are so narrow minded. get over yourselves. its not a sin unless you believe it is, no one is asking you to kiss another girl/guy. stop shoving your beliefs into other peoples faces. nothing wrong with kissing anyone.

  11. banana says:

I don’t understand why this is so upsetting. People should be free to make their own choices in life. If someone decides to be lesbian that is their choice ( I heard somewhere that it is genetic, so they can’t pick and choose they have to come to terms with it ), they still remain human and still need love and support from community and family. I like the song. It has a nice beat and is easy to dance to, this doesn’t make me lesbian, and it doesn’t make me want to be lesbian(I doubt a song could anyway).
And for you zealous ‘radical’ christians, I think that god doesn’t consider being bi-sexual a sin.( If it is genetic they don’t have a choice, why would god make them lesbian /gay if it is a sin, aren’t they just dammed their whole life then? Oddly, this sounds like Puritian teachings (remember the community that got caught up by hysteria in Salem, Massachusetts and killed 24 innocent ‘witches’) every child is born going straight to hell and unless the follow the proper way of life they can’t change their after-life.)
In a world filled with hate and greed love is harder and harder to come by. There are much worse things to do than kiss some one of the same sex. And if thinking this way means that I’m going to hell then so be it.
The only issue I have with this song is that she got drunk and made a in-the-moment decision, which was stupid. You can’t just live in the moment you need to think ahead (avoiding getting intoxicated helps too)

  12. Confused gender says:

Hey there I read the blog and also everyone’s comment. I’m from Asia and obviously as a teenager, I’m trying to find myself if you know what I mean. I go to school and my school has different environment other than any other all girls school. I don’t know if you’ll agree but as far as I’ve been observing myself through the past years of studying there, Having homosexual friends is normal. I mean you get to see your friends everyday cause of school and all of you are girls which will result to some of them can be confused of what they really are. Comparing girls to boys well girls are clingy and sweet to both parties. Girls can be sweet to boys and likewise. Girls have soft heart and when it comes to love i think that Girls doesn’t care if you’re a boy or a girl.

  13. Brad says:

i’m a Youth Minister at a small church. the other night at one of our functions i heard a few of the girls from my group singing this song. I had read this blog beforehand and I’m glad that I did because I was familiar enough with the song to put a stop to them singing it. In our society where what is pure and right becomes so watered down it’s not surprising to me that this song is becoming popular. I don’t hate anyone. I love everyone, but to call yourself a Christian you have to believe that the Word of God really is his word and hide it in your heart. I guarantee if you truly do this you’ll be as repulsed by this song as I am. It’s not a question of “in the moment” ” oh i was drunk”. It’s a question of moral absolutes defined by the Word of God. i’m sure someone will label me as radical. But the whole point is this generation has lost is knowledge of what it is to be a real Christian, of what it means to live up to Christ’s namesake. Yes Jesus loved everyone, but he called sin, sin. We are to love and be compassionate just as he was, but also shine his light in this ever darkening world. That’s what i teach my youth. I pray everyday that I speak with God’s wisdom and not my own. thanx for alerting me to this song so i can address the issue headon

  14. ... says:

I think it’s interesting that there are so many youth directors/ministers and leaders in the church who pick and choose what they teach from the bible. Yes, it does say that homosexuality is a sin, but does that mean we are going to teach them that slavery is ok? I am not saying that the bible shouldn’t be taught, because I have been raised in the church and the bottom line is that the bible teaches love. I do think, however, that as our society develops and as education is more available to the masses, we have discovered that slavery is [obviously] immoral and disgusting, so I think the opinions of the church will change in the same way about homosexuality as more information is available. The argument that the homosexual lifestyle is a choice is absolutely ludicrous. Who on Earth would choose to be ridiculed, hated, and thought of as a sinner who’s going to hell? I know people who have been completely shunned by their families after they came out, and they were close, loving, Christian families before. How is this Christ-like? I firmly believe that it is genetics that determines a person’s sexuality, and if that’s the case, God made them that way, so how is it a sin? I think this song was a good way to open up a discussion, but it really doesn’t mean anything. Just because high schoolers listen to it, it doesn’t mean that all of a sudden a bunch of teenage girls are going to start kissing each other. I personally like the song, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to make me kiss another girl. I think everyone is underestimating teenagers, and that’s a dangerous thing.

  15. John says:

If you are upset with what this song is saying then I suggest turning it off. It’s amazing how many people out there have such a narrow mind when it comes to these things. Jesus spent his time reaching out to the “sinners” of his day. He said we should extend our hand to our brother and embrace them with love. Every time I hear people preach this right-wing bible pounding nonsense it doesn’t surprise me that more and more people are turning away from the church and religion in general.

Open your minds and hearts and start thinking outside the literal word of the Bible, a book written and heavily edited by a bunch of religious zealots hundreds of years after Christ lived. Homosexuality has been around since the time of Christ and its not a disease, and its not something you can stop. It’s apart of the human experience. I’m a happily married heterosexual man and what someone does in the privacy of their own bedroom is their business. I’m more offended by these people who insist on pushing their world views on the rest of us who just want to be left alone.

  16. Kyle says:

What it is to be a “real” Christian? Who are YOU to determine who is and isn’t a “real” Christian? Who follows every word in the Bible? If that is your standard, than I could safely say that you, nor anyone I know, is a “real” Christian.

I am homosexual. I am a male, and am sexually attracted to other males. I did not chose to be sexually attracted to males, but because I was made like this I should have to hold back my instincts, my attraction, and my NATURAL feelings because God allegedly says not to? Heterosexual people don’t. It is encouraged to have a loving relationship with the opposite sex… however, I cannot have that with a woman. I cannot be sexually nor emotionally satisfied that way. So must I go through my life being unhappy in both of those respects just because the bible says so? Doesn’t it also say that you shouldn’t shave? Heaven forbid you all will not stop shaving, a minor chore in the scheme of life, but I must change the person I love… my entire outlook on my life and my identity so I can gain acceptance from you. Who are you to pick and chose what is correct now in society and what isn’t?

I will never change your mind. It’s funny that we “sinners” must be open-minded to your thoughts, but in return you are closed-minded to anyone elses arguments or beliefs. How about all of you who feel that you need to wipe away all the sin from the world look a bit at yourselves first. You all do not lead sinless lives, so how dare you judge anyone else for their “sinful” acts. The only one without sin is God. Let him judge me, and until then, I will keep being who I am–how God MADE me.

PS. I like this song. I hope it goes to #1 while you all are “keeping your eyes on it”… which, by the way, will have no purpose. “Keep your eye on this song”–stay stong, Jesus patrol! May all of you hypocrites make the world righteous.

  17. laurie says:

a real Christian is loving, hangs out with everyone just like Jesus did.
what people need to realize is that the usual reasoning is so flawed. “do what’s right for you and it’s Ok” is so incredbly flawed…if that were true, then it is OK to fly your plane into the twin towers. Why? because that felt good to them and it was the right thing to do in their eyes.
And, it is right to starve innocent victims in Myanmar. Why? becuase it’s “right” to their government officials and it feels good to them.
what about random killing? someone could say, it’s ok for me to do it, becuase it feels right and that is how God made me. “So butt out, it’s my stuff, not yours…”
bottom line is that EVERYONE knows there are morals in place. EVERYONE knows deep down that things are wrong. You cannnot simply say that things are ok if they feel good to you. Where do you draw the line?

  18. Great comment Laurie…

  19. Ron says:

Wow! Thanks Jonathan for sharing this blog with so many people around the world. I pray that the Lord will truly bless you and in this work that He has entrusted to you. As I read this blog and all of the comments from so many that feel so strongly on the topic of homosexuality my heart really goes out to you all. To those who are carrying the burden and weight of living that lifestyle, I just want you all to know that in Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus said “come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” I pray that everyone who replied to this blog would truly experience the magnitude of the grace of an awesome God who above all is like a loving father who desires that we follow His words not just as good advice but as directional and nourishment for our lost hearts borne out of an insatiable heart of love! Peace…

  20. josh says:

I think if you look at or listen to the lyrics of another song on her album titled “LOST” you will see the human side of this young girl a side that I feel gets lost when this issue is talked about.

  21. Ana says:

I think all of you are insane. It’s a song. I think you all are putting too much energy into something that’s not even as serious. Really?…Homosexuality, if it’s such a bad thing thing then, God would have put it in the ten commandments. Did he? well, to be honest we do not know. The King James addition was rewritten by so many un-christinan like people who just wanted to spread their bias, prejudice, ideas to others.

In short, I understand how it may offend people, but really…Get a life. Homosexuality is not that serious.

  22. Daniel says:

Our Youth will be our leaders of tomorrow and what direction are we trying to lead them. It is so dumb to think that we should just allow my generation of teens to chose their life styles when we can’t even afford to live on our own. Many say what is the big idea over homosexuality. If God wanted man to be with man then he would have never created a woman. The truth is songs such as this one influence the minds of young teens who are prone to anythng. As a teenager i know from experience that High School can be tough, especially if you have conservative views. But let me tell you something that my Joy in Heaven will bring more pleasure to me than anything that this world can offer. So will stand for what i believe is right. God Bless

  23. David Brannon says:

You know, one generation ago, playing cards was a serious sin to the serious Christian. (Grandpa wouldn’t play cards with us). Before that, dancing was off limits.

Why is it that mankind uses interpretation of the Bible to try to fend off so many social interactions that seem otherwise so natural? Because if everybody did it all the time civilization would fall apart? Is that realistic? Is that logical?

Scientific studies have shown that some females have brains structured like males, and vice-versa. It makes them attracted to the same sex. 10% of the population of the world, all cultures, has this genetic code difference.

Can I be a Christian and also believe in logic and science? Is that allowed? r do I have to believe every word that comes from the mouth of televangelists – many of whom have proven to be the most hypocritical sinners out there.

I consider myself a “modern christian”. I believe in God. I believe in hte Bible. I don’t necessarily believe in everybody’s different interpretation of it to justify their personal feelings.

  24. Kelly says:

I hope my kids never hear this song- its hard enough to raise kids without having to explain why two girls or boys want to kiss each other- me personally -its a sin and its not what marraige is about-God made man and woman and they reproduce not gay couples- Next people will be forming unions with animals-

  25. David… you’re a good writer. I love the grandpa story. The same was true with my grandpa. (I don’t know where they ever got that idea… I’ve never found any verses about playing cards. Funny)

I’m sorry that so many “tele-evangelists” and outspoken, judgmental preachers have misrepresented Christ and the Bible over the years.

Unfortunately, the connection of “What the Bible says about cards” doesn’t really parrallel “what the Bible says about Homosexuality.” Jesus loves everyone. But the Bible is pretty clear about God’s plan for sex and marriage (you can click the links in this blog above if you want to see where I talked about this).

As for that scientific data… feel free to offer links with that information. I’ve heard plenty of good folks talking about that data… I have yet to see that data.

    Thanks for your comment.

  26. Another human being says:

Did you ever stop to think that maybe since she was persecuted that she is now threatened by christianity and now throws it in the face of those who made her feel wrong her entire life.

  27. tom says:

This doesn’t talk about homosexuallity. It is a kiss from one girl to the next, experimental. She says she has a boyfriend. She didn’t sleep with the girl. The blogs hear are exactly what causes a backlash on christians. I am a christian and a sinner as many of you are. This girl was a sinner before and after this song. Don’t judge her. You without sin can throw the first stone. Pray for her don’t gossip,it is also a sin. Surely I have something better to do than to get caught up in this nonsense.

  28. I love the song I kissed a girl and liked it. I’ve thiught it was a grest song from the first time i heard it. It reality

  29. KD says:

Ok I must say that the blog or whatever this is is very interesting as are the comments that followed. I am a Christian, I try my best to follow the ways of the Lord. I am young and my life has not always been perfect. I have had a homoseual realtionship with another girl, and let me say that i have never felt so loved as I did in that realtionship. Though I would never enter into that kind of relationship again I think that it is very hypocridical for others to codem any one for thier personal chioces. Did not Jesus say ” let him without sin cast the first stone” when confronted with the situation with Mary Magdolin…..I have a very good friend who is gay and a Christian and I feel a great sorrow when I talk to him because though he is sexualy attracted to men he does not act on it because his mother tells him every day that he is going to hell just because he cant get it up for a girl. I find this a very sad sittuation in the world that most of thoes who are Christian make the faith so horrible, no one wants to follow a faith that punishes people for being who they are. I am not talking about thoes people who are homosexuals because it is the fad, but thoes like my friend who have tried again and again to find a hetero realtionship that will make them happy. My friend will spend the rest of his life alone because he will not let himself be who he is and he will not lie to some woman and tell her that he loves her in that way when he can not. And it is because of people like most of the commenters here who say that a song like this is poisioning the minds of our young people! ITS JUST A FREAKIN SONG! GET OVER IT!

  30. rosary says:

first of all i want to say i dont think its any of your business wether someone else wants to date someone of the opisite sex
in your case you say you shouldnt cuase its sin well doesnt it say in the bible ye with no sin cast the first stone yea maybe people should listen to that one

anyway i like the song i think she has a wonderful voice if you dont want to listen to it or you dont want your kids to listen to it thats your business do your job it cleary states the intention of the song in the title soo why look if you werent seeking to judge

  31. Steve says:

I find it an interesting commentary on the mindset of our culture to see some of the comments in here defending this artist and this song. Those of us who are actually shocked and offended by it understand the explicit teaching of scripture about perversion, homosexual sin etc. Simply read Romans 1 or Revelation 22 if you don’t know what I’m talking about. This artist is encouraging sexually deviant behavior that God clearly prohibits, so our offense at this has NOTHING to do with judging and casting the first stone, as though scripture actually teaches that everything goes so just accept all behavior. Where did you ever get the idea that Christians aren’t to proclaim BOTH that which is sin and the gospel of free grace that saves us from sin?

I was truly disturbed to hear this song sung onstage during a recent episode of “So you think you can dance.” Disturbed not only by the lyrics, but equally disturbed by the loud applause and praise from the audience.

  32. Agnostic-a says:

The song doesn’t talk about homosexuallity. “its not what im used to” She also says she has a boyfriend. Its not like she slept with the girl. The blogs hear are why so many people hate you christian nut jobs. This girl was a sinner before and after this song. Don’t judge her. You without sin can throw the first stone. Christians dont know how to practice what they preach. Surely I have something better to do than to get caught up in this nonsense.

  33. SS says:

Katy used to go under the name Katy Hudson and has a Christian CD out from 2001. She even toured with Phil Joel 2001…

It’s sad how things took a turn for the worse sometime after then…

  34. bex says:

I am completely disgusted and outraged by the comments from these so call ‘christians’ you actually all make me sick! After reading this, I am ashamed to have ever been christened. you kind of people are the reason why I am not religous. What exactly gives you the right to judge someone who is experimenting in life? has she killed someone? NO! has she looked down her nose at someone? NO! HAS SHE JUDGED ANYONE? NO! In fact, if you watch the video, it clearly shows that this song is all about having a dream… Im sure you’ve all had dreams while you were sleeping? surely being a christian is about not judging people?
You people walk around being all righteous when I am pretty sure NONE of you are perfect. Just for the record I am not homosexual yet i completely empathise with people that are and that read these disgusting comments and feel like they have done something wrong, homosexuals have enough to worry about concerning what people are going to think of them when they eventually DO tell people how they feel. surely you have all had feeling that maybe you didnt choose to have, but you dont have control over feelings…. and why would god give us feelings if he didnt want us to express them? If your feelings aren’t hurting people (like yours ARE) then what exactly is the problem?
I wash my hands of all religion…. If religion was such a great thing, then why are there so many wars over it?! so homosexuality is a disgrace, but god wanted us all to kill eachother…. hmmmm that makes sense….!
As for this song being listened to by younger people..? is that so wrong that they should be made aware that it isnt a crime to have those kind of feelings? because whether you like it or not, a percentage of people will grow up to have those feelings. I guess your kind actually WANT people with those uncontrollable feelings to feel dirty and discusting? oh yes that would be good, then they can just keep those feelings locked inside and turn to something else to forget (like drugs for example?!) Just to summarise this comment; You preachers all disgust me and people like you make me very happy to not be religious!! when you get to those gates and are directed to hell, that will be the time you will realise that you have sinned by being so judgemental and in such a big way. good luck with that.

  35. David says:

IT is interesting that so many “Christians” or non Christians who disagree with this particular topic use the scripture about whoever is without sin casting the first stone. This is a great defense for anyone condemning a Christian for sticking to the Word of God however it is misguided and taken out of context. I encourage each of you using this defense to disagree with the so called “radical” Christian worldview to continue reading in that particular passage. Jesus is protecting the town prostitute from persecution and he successfully fends off the attack, which I applaud you for trying to do as well in Katy’s defense; however too often we stop there. Jesus then takes her aside and says “now go and sin no more.” So he does tell her it’s a sin, but he does so in love. What Jonathan is trying to do is help to look at some issues today’s youth face and the difficult circumstances they face every day, such as the situation Katy wrote about in her song. He is condemning her, only stating that as Christians, we must be aware of these issues and help our teens who may struggle with these types of decisions. No judgement, no blame, just a loving attempt to be there for our teens.

  36. bex says:

oh yes to be there for your teens until they come home one day and say they are gay?! then what happens?!

  37. Brian Metz says:

    To David – good comment
Good article Jonathan. It’s too bad no one really ever comes back to read other people’s comments after they comment. And it’s equally too bad that we clearly have a writing and spelling problem.

It’s amazing how feelings and experience always seem to trump scripture. As a Christian, youth pastor, “radical”, I find that tolerance is NOT agreeing that everything is right and that we shouldn’t “judge” but tolerance is allowing space for us to differ and dialogging in a civil manner. Name calling and personal or straw man attack tactics are not helpful, for either side. I love how we get the Bible’s teachings thrown back at us, “shaving”, “throw the first stone” and yet there is no understanding (or context), that we realize that we don’t measure up to these standards. That is why we need Jesus. God will judge us and the curve is Jesus – Rev 19. I just want to know Him and love him by obeying Him. I was born a sinner, God made me so I guess I should just continue lusting, stealing, hating, go murder, have sex with whomever, etc. – may it never be. It is this remarkable grace that sets me free to NOT sin. Sin is the bondage. Love people enough to let them see that it’s not about rules, it’s about loving a Lord so much that I desire to do good because of His great love for me.
So much to say about this.
Keep up the good work Jonathan!

  38. HAHAHA says:

dont listen to it if you dont like it?
    christ, get a life.
why does it affect you at all?!

    live and let live.

  39. Gemma says:

Why does there seem to be so much hatred on this page? And why am I seeing some Christians making digs about spelling mistakes that’s a bit spiteful don’t we think? I originally came looking for opinions on the song and found all this crap! I am a lesbian and have many religous friends that pay no interest in my sexuality and have played a part in changing my opinion of christians as when I was younger and before I realised my sexuality ( the one God gave me!) I used to attend a church full of inbred, pushy and deluded people with the odd pervert thrown in for good measure!! You people do nothing for the goodness these real christians radiate and tarnish your own reputation, why do some of you spout so much ignorant, vile shite? That’s why I hold you people with the same contempt as America’s Most Hated Family, there is something wrong with you not us!! As said above look at yourselves before you judge others, don’t concern yourself with what the world outside your church are doing, keep yourselves to yourselves and convince yourself you are going to heaven. How can you say you are doing God’s work when you are judging people like in the above comments? You should be ashamed, if God was here with us I’m sure he would be happy to guide people that want to follow and listen, those that don’t can find their own way.
God made us this way and i’m sure he would want all his children to be happy. But I’m sure my words, as all the other comments standing up for us ‘ wrongun’s’ , will fall on deaf ears, or is it that you don’t want to hear??
Back to the subject, I do not agree with this song but not for your reasons. I don’t like the lyrics because they appear to glamourise the fake lesbian irritants that like to lezz it up for the boys in the clubs. If you like girls and wanna try it then go ahead, but NOT on the middle of the dance floor and definately NOT if you have a boyfriend, that’s cheating I’m afraid, yes girls do count!!!! If people are confused or curious then it’s good to try things out but this song just encourages girls to spread it about. Girls believe me if you want to try it then don’t just kiss! Get the good stuff, just kissing is like having the doughnut without the sugar!! (And for those religous prisoners that are not allowed to go clubbing and pick up a girl, just tell your mummy and daddy that your going round sarah’s for bible study and stick the L word on, that will get her in the curious mood!) A-fooking Men!

  40. Jonathan says:

If the song is OK..for alot of people on here. then how about song with Justin Timberlake singing ” I kissed a boy and I liked it” with the lyrics going…” the taste of his soft lips and messed around with my boy while we watched football and I hope my girlfriend dont mind it”…
I wonder how the views of people who agree that Katy Perrys song is harmless all of sudden turn against a song like this

  41. Jason says:

“Sit down, I’ve got some bad news. I’ve got cancer, and I only have three weeks to live…nah, I’m only kiddin’, I’m just gay.”

See? There are worse things than kissing someone of the same sex…

Another news flash for you people–not everyone believes what you believe…

And to the person who couldn’t fathom on how to explain to her kids why two men or two women might kiss one another? It’d be putting it nicely to say you are having a failure of imagination… How about “Because they love each other, but I, as your parent, don’t agree with that, and here’s why…” Be a parent, dippy, and quit hiding behind your children because you’re incompentent at explaining things to five year olds…

  42. Kellie says:

i’m atheist, i think the songs fine; she’s just singing she’s not encouraging anything :) everyone is allowed their own opinions and speech, if people are liking the song then maybe it shows you something about the types of young people we have today. we just dont care.

  43. Tonie says:

I’m not homosexual but I’m certainly not against homosexuals. I believe it’s not a sin, and I really don’t care what anyone else believes. I believe that it is good that celebrities are showing they are not against homosexuality. Plus, I actually enjoy the song. I’m also pagan so I believe I would be what many christians would call in the middle ages “a heratic”. And just a heads up for you really christian people: (in my oppinion) the world wasn’t made in six days! It is also billions of years old! And I have one more word for you: EVOLUTION!
